Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology (EEOB) in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University (ISU) seeks an integrative biologist working on the effects of environmental change on ecological or organismal health. The ideal candidate will have an integrative research program at any biological scale, from molecules to ecosystems, using any mixture of advanced experimental, computational, and/or analytical approaches and technological tools (e.g., artificial intelligence, remote sensing, environmental informatics, predictive modeling, and/or environmental genomics). Research should address pressing societal questions about organism responses to environmental change, disease risk, environmental resilience, adaptability, evolutionary medicine, ecological health and well-being, epigenetics, or other related topics. The successful candidate is expected to establish an externally funded research program and contribute to undergraduate and graduate education, including an introductory course in environmental health and an advanced course in an area of expertise. This is a tenure-track 9-month position at the rank of assistant professor, with a tenure-home appointment in EEOB (100%).
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. or equivalent in ecology, evolutionary biology, or closely related field by the time of hire.
Publications in nationally or internationally recognized journals.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to conduct impactful research
Research experience and interests in the effects of environmental change on ecological or organismal health
Ability to provide effective teaching and student learning
Ability and commitment to contribute to the Department and University's Principles of Community
Department/Program & College Description:
The Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology is a collaborative and collegial community of about 80 faculty, graduate students, post-doctoral researchers, and staff addressing a wide range of research questions using multiple approaches that bridge traditional scientific disciplines and span levels of biological organization. EEOB is jointly administered by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS). The department administers undergraduate programs in Biology, Environmental Science, and Genetics, and our faculty participate actively in multiple departmental and interdepartmental graduate programs, including Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Environmental Science, Genetics and Genomics, and Bioinformatics and Computational Biology.
