Head of School Job Description

New Covenant School is seeking a Head of School that is ready and capable in leading us strategically in accomplishing our mission and attaining our vision. With daily oversight and management of all faculty and operations of the school, while championing and developing a clear path toward the calling we humbly receive from Christ the King.

Reporting Relationship

New Covenant School is a ministry of New Covenant Church under the oversight of an elder‑approved board. The Head of School is hired by the church elders and is under the oversight of the Senior Pastor with direct and continual input from the School Board.

  • Head of School Duties

    Managerial/Personnel

    • Capacity to occupation day‑to‑day school needs with an existing leadership team.
    • Equip rather than micromanage; delegate, trust, and coach leaders.
    • Oversight and delegation of all faculty and staff; hiring and dismissals.
    • Develop and execute a plan to recruit and retain top‑quality faculty and staff members.

    • Work with policy and HR committees to maintain a faculty handbook and conduct annual evaluations.
    • Ensure faculty maintain responsible church membership in a local evangelical church aligned with the Statement of Faith.
    • Maintain a student handbook that fosters a positive Christian discipline environment.

    Educational Leadership

    • Ensure all communication is biblical and above reproach.
    • Provide strong leadership across academics, spiritual programs, athletics, arts, and community service.
    • Work with the School Board, faculty, and staff to keep the curriculum doctrinally pure.
    • Coordinate regular Bible study and prayer time with staff.

    Responsibility to Board

    • Attend all board meetings and functions.
    • warming to keep the Board Chairman informed of all key aspects of school operations.
    • Represent Board decisions and policies to staff and parents positively.
    • Develop with the Board policy and procedures under church elder oversight.
    • Moderate Board meetings, prepare agendas, and set goals.
    • Provide strategic leadership to advance the school’s mission.
    • Formulate vision and direct school policy and governance.

    Responsibility to New Covenant Church
    • Provide regular reports to church elders and the School Board.
    • Collaborate with the church Business Administrator on facility scheduling and capital improvements.
    • Maintain church discipline principles, avoiding accusations against church members.
    • Participate actively as a member of New Covenant Church and exemplify churchmanship.
    • Maintain a positive relationship with senior pastor,_scroll, elders, and staff.

    Operations & Finance

    • Oversee daily operations of the school.
    • Work with the School Board, Parent Association, and staff to enhance programs of excellence and exercise fiscal judgment.
    • Ensure sound fiscal management and oversight of budgeting, fundraising, and public relations.
    • Prepare the annual school budget for board approval.
    • Ensure compliance with state authorities, insurance, and student file requirements.
    • Develop and execute a strategic enrollment plan.

    Plant/Facilities Management

    • Oversee maintenance of facilities, storage areas, and overall workplace environment.

    Fundraising Development

    • Create fundraising programs aligned with school values and attract community participation.
    • Lead capital campaigns utilizing campus potential for God's glory.
    • Work with the School Board and staff to set reasonable fundraising expectations.
    • Be a vision‑casting leader and collaborate with church leadership to spread the school’s mission.

    Student/Family Relations

    • Participate in admissions, recruitment, and culture maintenance.
    • Serve as liaison between faculty and parents to resolve issues.
    • Maintain consistent and respectful discipline policy.
    • Communicate regularly with parents and staff, fostering excitement about the school’s ministries.
    • Encourage personal evangelism and exhort others to witness Christ.

    External Relations

    • Oversee all internal and external school communications.
    • Promote Christian, covenantal, and classical education to the congregation and community.
    • Present the school’s mission to New Covenant Church and interested churches.

    Position Qualifications

    Expected Requirements & Compensation

    Education

    • Bachelor’s degree in Education or equivalent work experience in a related field.
    • Master’s Degree in Education Leadership or equivalent leadership experience.

    Previous Experience

    • 5+ years in Administration/Leadership with experience in finance, budget preparation, accounting, maintenance, and financial development. ▁
    • Classroom teaching experience.
    • A strong understanding of Christian, covenantal, and classical education.

    Additional Requirements

    • U.S. citizenship or green card holder.
    • Successful completion of the Instructional Leaders’ Covenants used for all teachers at New Covenant Church and School (obtainable at www.ncchurch.net).

    Compensation

    Annual salary commensurate with education and experience. Tuition discounts are included for children. Other benefits include health, life, and disability insurance, retirement, four weeks paid bonke vacation during “down time”, and up to two weeks of continuing education with financial allowance.

    New Covenant School is a ministry of and located at New Covenant Church in the beautiful upstate of South Carolina, about 30 minutes south of Greenville. We have approximately 400 in attendance on Sunday morning. Our mission is to promote a life‑changing faith by loving fellowship.
