About this Role

The Managing Director, Nature Finance leads NatureVest’s team of impact finance professionals in developing and executing impact investment and sovereign debt products. This role requires a senior finance expert providing oversight and input into the development of both sovereign and investment capital, and structuring transactions to meet TNC’s 2030 conservation goals. The position includes providing financing expertise to develop new private equity, corporate finance, and other finance mechanisms to deliver impactful outcomes. The Managing Director oversees numerous projects across relevant geographies, working in coordination with TNC Global Strategy and Regional Leadership. This role involves cultivating new partners and managing external relationships with financial institutions, NGOs, and governments, all within NatureVest’s mandate. The position entails managing NatureVest’s Impact Investments and Sustainable Debt teams, reporting directly to the Managing Director of NatureVest.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of finance professionals in structuring deals and performing financial analyses for impact investment products.
  • Pioneer innovative approaches in impact investing and sovereign debt markets.
  • Build and strengthen strategic relationships with financial institutions, NGOs, and governments.
  • Integrate cross-disciplinary insights to design viable investments that deliver measurable conservation outcomes.
  • Influence decision-making across TNC and foster collaboration with internal leaders and external partners.
  • Advise NatureVest’s non-transaction teams on financial sector engagement strategies.
  • Guide legal collaboration, ensuring effective coordination with counsel on complex transaction issues.
  • Represent TNC publicly at industry events and in media on impact investing initiatives.
  • Serve on TNC’s internal review and approvals committee.
  • Travel extensively (up to 30% domestic and international), including outside standard business hours.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field and 9 years of related work experience.
  • Experience in structuring, negotiating, and closing debt and equity transactions, including in emerging markets.
  • Experience with debt swap structures and impact investing.
  • Ability to direct complex projects, set deadlines, and ensure accountability.
  • Experience working at a senior level.
  • Written and verbal fluency in English.
