Special Education Teacher in Chincoteague Island, VA

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, active Special Education Teacher license and minimum 1+ years Special Education Teacher experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

This position offers an opportunity for a Special Education Teacher to support students in a K-12 school setting. Located in Chincoteague Island, VA, the role is a contract position for the current school year (CSY). The teacher will work closely with students across elementary and middle school levels, providing tailored educational support in both inclusion and self-contained settings.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver individualized instruction to students with special needs in elementary and middle school settings
• Manage caseloads averaging 15 students in elementary inclusion and middle school inclusion classrooms
• Provide specialized support in an elementary self-contained classroom with a typical caseload of 8 students
• Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families to create inclusive learning environments
• Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) aligned with state and federal guidelines
• Monitor student progress and adjust instruction based on assessment data

Qualifications:

• Valid special education teaching certification appropriate for K-12 education
• Experience working with diverse learners in inclusion and self-contained classrooms
• Strong classroom management and organizational skills
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
• Knowledge of IU regulations and special education best practices
