The Bay Pines VA Healthcare System is seeking an experienced Surgical Hospitalist to provide comprehensive inpatient surgical care. The Surgical Hospitalist takes a comprehensive approach to caring for patients and serves as a clinical leader coordinating multidisciplinary services for complex patients. This physician partners closely with attending surgeons to ensure safe, high-quality outcomes and reports to the Section Chief of Surgical Critical Care and Perioperative Care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee patient care on the surgical service in collaboration with attending surgeons

  • Perform and document consultations on hospitalized patients

  • Write orders and conduct daily rounds

  • Perform and document diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within granted clinical privileges

  • Coordinate multidisciplinary care for complex patients

  • Participate in educational programs for surgical unit personnel and medical staff

  • Monitor the quality, safety, and appropriateness of patient care

  • Demonstrate ethical conduct and serve as a positive role model across the organization

  • Participate in quality assurance initiatives and chart reviews

  • Attend Medical Service staff meetings and serve on Medical Staff committees

  • Complete medical records in accordance with Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules, and Regulations

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Chief of Surgery Service

  Qualifications

  • MD or DO from an accredited program

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine

  • Eligible for VA credentialing

  • Experience in inpatient surgical and perioperative management preferred

  • Strong leadership, communication, and team-based care skills
